This is from my A.I. helper.
Proverbs 12:18. I'll provide the verse and then explain its meaning.
The verse reads: "There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." (This translation is from the English Standard Version, ESV)
Here's a breakdown of the verse's meaning:
1. **The Power of Words**: The proverb highlights the significant impact that our words can have on others. It contrasts two types of speech:
2. **Harmful Speech**: "Rash words are like sword thrusts" suggests that careless, impulsive, or angry speech can be extremely hurtful. Just as a sword can wound or kill, sharp, thoughtless words can emotionally wound and damage relationships.
3. **Wise Speech**: In contrast, "the tongue of the wise brings healing" emphasizes that carefully chosen, thoughtful words can have a positive, restorative effect. Wise speech can comfort, encourage, and help people heal from emotional pain.
The broader message is about the importance of being mindful of how we speak to others. It encourages:
- Thinking before speaking
- Choosing words that build up rather than tear down
- Recognizing the emotional power of our language
- Seeking to use speech as a tool for healing and understanding
This proverb is part of the larger wisdom literature in the Bible, which often focuses on the moral and practical aspects of human behavior and communication.

THIS HAS GREAT RESOURCES FOR BIBLE STUDY.
I personally have been in what felt like a one way war. I say it was a one way war because I was consciously trying to not say hurtful thngs and look to speak in a way that built up rather than tore down.
The person that was speaking to me was not holding back and seemed to have no concern about what this verse speaks to.
While Proverbs is great for wisdom and direction, I find that when I understand something and the other party doesn't understand it the same way then we have discord.
Imagine if we all felt valued and took time to understand all sides of a situation before reacting?
I know when two people have a conversation using the same thought process then the results are very powerful.
It takes a lot more energy for us to figure out a way to get our point across without being negative and lifting up others. I hope you and I find the energy to do what's best as often as possible.
There you have it, my two cents.
