Proverbs 10:8 in the New King James Version (NKJV) reads:

"The wise in heart will receive commands, but a prating fool will fall."

This proverb contrasts two types of people:

1. "The wise in heart" - Someone who is truly wise will be willing to listen to and accept instruction, guidance, and commands. They have the humility to recognize they can learn from others.

2. "A prating fool" - This refers to someone who talks excessively or foolishly, often without substance. The word "prating" suggests empty or meaningless chatter.

The core meaning is that wisdom is demonstrated through a willingness to learn and take direction, while foolishness is shown through excessive, empty talk and an unwillingness to listen. The proverb teaches that those who refuse guidance and prefer their own empty words will ultimately "fall" or come to ruin, while those who humbly accept instruction will prosper.

The contrast emphasizes that true wisdom isn't just about knowledge, but about having the right attitude toward learning and instruction.
