"Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips."
This proverb cautions against self-praise and boasting. The wisdom here is that it's better to let your actions and character speak for themselves, allowing others to recognize and acknowledge your worth, rather than proclaiming your own merits.
The teaching emphasizes the value of humility and suggests that praise is more meaningful and credible when it comes from others, particularly from those who have no vested interest in flattering you (hence the reference to "strangers"). This remains a relevant principle today - we often find self-promotion less convincing than genuine recognition from others.
A good example of th8s is seen everyday when simone shares something with you via social media; the system
Gives more value to a share then versus a self promoted post.
