Luke 18:1 in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible reads:

"And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;"

The meaning of this verse is:

1. Jesus is introducing a parable (a story with a moral lesson).

2. The purpose of this parable is to teach that people should:
   a) Pray continually or persistently ("always pray")
   b) Not give up or lose heart ("not faint")

This verse emphasizes the importance of persistent prayer and maintaining faith even when faced with challenges or when answers seem delayed. It encourages believers to be steadfast in their communication with God and not to become discouraged or stop praying.

The parable that follows this verse (known as the Parable of the Persistent Widow) illustrates this point further by showing how persistence can lead to results.
