Luke 7:47 in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible reads:
"Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little."
This verse is part of a larger story where Jesus is dining at a Pharisee's house, and a woman known to be a sinner comes and washes Jesus' feet with her tears, wipes them with her hair, and anoints them with ointment.
The meaning of this verse can be understood as follows:
1. Jesus is addressing the Pharisee who had judged the woman harshly.
2. He acknowledges that the woman has committed many sins.
3. Jesus states that her sins are forgiven because she has shown great love.
4. He then contrasts this with a general principle: those who are forgiven little (or perceive they have little to be forgiven for) tend to love little in return.
The verse emphasizes the relationship between forgiveness and love. It suggests that those who recognize the magnitude of their forgiveness tend to respond with greater love and gratitude. Conversely, those who don't believe they need much forgiveness may not experience or express as much love.
This passage is often interpreted as a lesson about grace, forgiveness, and the appropriate response to God's mercy.
If you would like to explore this verse further or learn about alternative interpretations and applications I suggest prayer, and reading through the resources within this application.
May you see and obey the Lord as he speaks to you.
