THIS HAS GREAT RESOURCES FOR BIBLE STUDY.
Let me share Proverbs 15:4 from the King James Version (KJV):
"A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit."
This proverb contrasts two types of speech and their effects:
1. "A wholesome tongue" (healing, gentle, healthy speech) is compared to a "tree of life" - suggesting that good words bring:
- Life and vitality to relationships
- Healing to those who hear them
- Spiritual and emotional nourishment
- Growth and flourishing
2. "Perverseness therein" (twisted, deceitful, harmful speech) creates a "breach in the spirit" - meaning:
- It breaks down relationships
- Wounds the spirit/emotions
- Creates division
- Damages both speaker and listener spiritually
The proverb teaches that our words have tremendous power - they can either bring life and healing like a fruitful tree, or they can crush and damage the human spirit. It encourages using speech that builds up rather than tears down.
Does this make sense to you, then let us make the world better together one word at a time.
