THIS HAS GREAT RESOURCES FOR BIBLE STUDY.
Here is the text of Proverbs 23:17 in the King James Version (KJV):
"Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long."
To me this is simple:
I feel the proverb is saying that I will likely have a tendency to envy something or someone.
While envy may not be a good thing it is a human tendency and instead of choosing to envy a sinner we should use the healthy fear of what God says will be the fate of sinners along with the respect of what pleases our maker to strengthen our attention on God and our resolve to not focus on the things that drive us to envy sinners.
The main meaning of this verse according to our lovely A.i assistant:
1. Do not be envious or covetous of sinners and their apparent success or prosperity. Their ways may seem appealing, but ultimately lead to destruction.
2. Instead, maintain a reverent and humble attitude towards God at all times. Live in the "fear of the Lord" - which means having a deep respect, awe, and obedience towards God.
The overall message is encouraging the reader to focus on faithfully following God, rather than being drawn in by the temporary allures of sin and wickedness.
The path of the righteous, though it may involve challenges, is infinitely better than the way of the sinner. Maintaining a godly mindset and lifestyle is the wise choice.
What do you think? Did this proverb make sense to you? After reading this will you try harder to not envy the ways of sinners?
